Hi, I’m Dreena Grace Burthon and if you’re here looking for diabetes-friendly recipes that don’t make you feel like you’re being punished, you’re in good company.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago, and to be honest, it shook me. I remember sitting in the kitchen one night staring at a pack of pasta and thinking, what now? Suddenly, all the foods I loved felt off-limits, and everything I was “allowed” to eat sounded like it came from a hospital cafeteria.
I started The Diabetic Recipes not as an expert, but as someone trying to figure it out in real time. I needed meals that didn’t spike my blood sugar, yes but also meals that made me feel like myself again. Comfort food. Family recipes. Simple weeknight dinners that didn’t cost a fortune or require a health degree to understand.
So I started tinkering. Swapping ingredients. Testing low-carb flours. Learning what my body liked (and didn’t). I messed up plenty of times. But slowly, I started to build a little recipe box of meals I actually looked forward to eating and more importantly, meals my family liked too.
This site is my way of sharing that little box with you. You’ll find real recipes here. Not “perfect” ones but real ones. Food you’d actually cook on a Tuesday. Dishes that make you feel normal, not restricted. And if you’re just starting out with diabetes or cooking for someone who is, I hope this space feels like a soft landing.
Because yes you can manage your health and still enjoy your meals. You don’t have to give up flavor, fun, or dessert (I promise I’ve got options for that too).
Welcome to my kitchen.
Dreena
