About Me

Hi, I’m Dreena — the voice (and appetite) behind The Diabetic Recipes. If you’ve found yourself here, maybe you’re navigating the same challenge I once did: trying to enjoy food again while living with — or caring for someone with — diabetes.

For a long time, food was just comfort for me. I baked for the joy of it, cooked without checking a single label, and never once thought about “glycemic load.” That changed the day my younger sister was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Suddenly, every bite mattered. Every recipe needed a second thought. And the kitchen — once a place of creativity — felt overwhelming.

At first, I tried making changes: cutting carbs, avoiding sugar, skipping favorites. But the results? Dry, dull, disappointing. I almost gave up.

But something kept pushing me. I knew there had to be a better way — a way to cook that didn’t sacrifice joy for blood sugar.

So I got to work: experimenting, failing, reworking, and tasting. I started building recipes that were both mindful and mouthwatering. Slowly, that spark came back.

That’s how The Diabetic Recipes was born — not from perfection, but from the real mess of trial and error. I’m not a doctor, a dietitian, or a fancy chef. I’m just someone who believes that diabetes shouldn’t mean the end of enjoying what’s on your plate.

Here, you’ll find recipes that are simple, comforting, and designed with balance in mind. But more than that, I hope you find hope, humor, and maybe even a little inspiration.

Because diabetes is a journey. But it doesn’t have to be a lonely one.

Let’s cook our way through it — together.

Warmly,
Dreena Grace Burton Diabetic Recipe Creator & Healthy Living Advocate
